In my practice, the work for your first therapy session starts with completing the paperwork I send you through your client portal before you come for your first session. But, once the day comes for your first session with me, you will find that my primary task is to make you feel comfortable. I offer a variety of coffees and teas as well as water, and then we start talking! Plan for two hours, although most initial evaluations (also know as “intake appointments” or “intake assessments”) will take about 90 minutes. I will ask you a lot of questions, remember, my questions are your guide to help you tell me your story and what your needs are for therapy. I'll ask about symptoms, current stressors, and encourage you to be open about your feelings. At the end of the session. I make my initial recommendations for therapy and treatment, and we can set up your next appointment if you comfortable doing so.
